Africa CDC role in ADHN
Africa CDC acts as the anchor, convener, and custodian of the Africa Digital Health Networks, ensuring that digital health efforts across the continent are coordinated, standards-based, and country-driven to advance health system strengthening and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Africa.
1. Institutional Convener and Steward
- Mandate Alignment: As a specialized health agency of the African Union (AU), Africa CDC anchors ADHN within the continental digital health agenda, ensuring alignment with its Digital Transformation Strategy (2023–2027).
- Continental Coordination: Provides political legitimacy, strategic oversight, and convening power to rally Member States, partners, and regional bodies around shared digital health priorities.
- Policy Leadership: Guides ADHN’s work so it contributes directly to the Digital Health Framework for Africa and supports the implementation of the Africa CDC Digital Transformation Strategy.
2. Governance and Oversight
- Secretariat Oversight: Provides oversight to the ADHNs Secretariat, ensuring it operates within Africa CDC’s vision and strategic framework in alignment.
- Advisory Role: Has a permanent seat on the Board and offers technical direction and validation for ADHN work plans, partnerships, and outputs.
- Integration: Ensures ADHN’s activities are harmonized with Africa CDC programs (such as surveillance, emergency response, and health information systems).
3. Capacity Building and Country Support
- Member State Enablement: Supports national digital health strategies, workforce development, and implementation of regional digital initiatives.
- Technical Assistance: Provides guidance and tools to help countries adopt harmonized digital solutions aligned with continental standards.
